Best Buddies Canada is a national charitable organization that helps foster one-to-one friendships between people with intellectual disabilities and students. Through the program, individuals with an intellectual disability are given an opportunity to enjoy the same experiences most people take for granted - going for coffee, watching a movie or simply enjoying the company of a friend.
Founded in the United States by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies established its first Canadian chapter in 1993 and was incorporated as a registered Canadian charity in 1995. Today, the program is conducted in both English and French and involves 3,000 dedicated volunteers annually.
Best Buddies is currently undergoing a very exciting period of expansion. Our program now includes over 165 chapters at Universities, Colleges and High Schools in every province across Canada, with plans to greatly increase the number of high school chapters. Included in this expansion are plans to increase public awareness of our program through more local fundraisers and events. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and goal oriented team of individuals focused on making a difference at the local and national level.
Under direction of the Executive Director, our staff coordinates with students, teachers and community agency workers in the program to ensure successful operations of Best Buddies at each school chapter in different regions throughout Canada, while maintaining up-to-date records for office use and maintaining close contact with each chapter.
